About Dark Chess
Chinese chess pieces, but not Chinese chess. Rank is everything here: a piece can only capture something below it in the hierarchy, so the game turns on knowing what you are allowed to touch and what will simply refuse to die when you reach it.
How to play
- The pieces are drawn from Chinese chess, but the rules of engagement are different.
- A piece can only capture pieces of a lower rank than itself.
- You lose when all your pieces have been taken, or when you have no legal move left.
Tips
- Losing a high-ranking piece costs more than the piece. It removes your only answer to everything that piece outranked.
- Running out of moves loses as surely as running out of pieces, so watch your mobility and not only your material.
