Klondike, the solitaire that came with everybody's first computer, in a tidy presentation. The publisher says nothing about how it deals or scores, so what is guaranteed is the game itself: seven piles, four foundations, and one deck between you and a cleared screen.

How to play

• Build the four foundations upward by suit, starting from the aces.
• In the tableau, stack cards downward in alternating colours.
• A king, or a sequence headed by one, can move into any column you empty.
• Turn cards from the stock when the tableau offers nothing.
• The deal is solved once all fifty-two cards reach the foundations.

Tips

• Empty a column before rushing cards up to the foundations. A card sent up early is one you can no longer use to unstack the tableau.
• Prefer any move that turns over a face-down card. Information is the scarce resource in Klondike, not tempo.
