How to play

• Choose a puzzle and read the clues for the across and down entries.
• Fill answers into the grid so that crossing words agree with one another.
• A grid is complete when every square is filled consistently.
• Puzzles are the progression; there is no ladder to climb beyond finishing them.

Tips

• Fill the short entries first. Three and four letter answers have far fewer candidates and they hand you crossing letters everywhere.
• When a long answer refuses to come, leave it and work the words crossing it. Crosswords are solved sideways much more often than head-on.
