Chess broken into puzzles instead of served as whole games. You face Rupert the Red King across a series of set problems, each one asking for a specific answer rather than a plan you have to carry for forty moves. It is a gentler way in than a clock and an opening book.

How to play

• Play against Rupert the Red King through a series of challenges.
• Each challenge is a chess position set up as a puzzle to be solved.
• The pieces move by standard chess rules.
• Working through the challenges is the whole of the progression.

Tips

• Look for the forcing move first. Puzzle positions nearly always have exactly one answer, and it usually hides among the checks and captures.
• If nothing works, you are probably defending the wrong piece. Ask what the position actually threatens before hunting for an idea of your own.
